Ordiance Goes To Committee That Could Prevent Providence Firings

There was no mass firing of Providence police because of a missed coronavirus vaccination deadline on Friday as some on the City Council had feared.

Council president John Igliozzi called an emergency meeting to consider an ordinance that would regulate such a mass firing, but it was referred to a committee.

Igliozzi said the council was pleased that the city administration has taken a reasonable approach to what could have been a disastrous public safety situation.

Mayor Jorge Elorza says that if he gets the council measure he would immediately veto it. And by preliminary votes- the council measure is not veto proof.
