Gordon Ernst Pleads Guilty In Varsity Blues Case

A former Rhode Island high school star athlete and briefly the head women's tennis coach at the University of Rhode Island, Gordon Ernst, is pleading guilty as part of the Varsity Blues college admissions fraud case.

Federal officials say Ernst admitted that he solicited and accepted bribes to help get students admitted to Georgetown University as fake tennis recruits when he was the coach there.

Ernst also pleaded guilty to tax evasion charges related to the bribes he received in Boston federal court on Monday. He has agreed to a sentence of at least one year in prison and the forfeiture of more than three million dollars.
